SINKER BARS
|
SINKER BARSSinker bars are the motive power behind shell & auger drilling. They drive the tools into the material when allowed to free-fall. They are threaded both ends, and have cross-holes for tightening, and to take a pin for driving and lifting casing. The picture shows different diameters and lengths of sinkers, which can be screwed together to make up the weight required for the task in hand. This may vary from about 100 Kg to 500 Kg. Small diameter sinkers are used in smaller casing. Larger diameter ones can be used to start a hole where the length of free-fall may be restricted. The longer bars on the left of the picture are 100mm diameter and weigh 90 Kg each. Sinkers may be ordered by individual weight, with the same format of M/F threads, and two cross holes. A 50 Kg sinker can be handled by a two-man crew while remaining within the EU Health & Safety regulations for manual lifting.
