SPADE REAMER

The Spade Reamer is designed to enlarge an existing hole by shaving the sides. It is not a drilling tool, except in some soft clays. The main use is to remove sufficient material from the walls of a nominally 6-inch hole to allow the insertion of 8-inch casing.

The reamer will also enlarge a hole drilled with 6-inch tools to provide a clear working space if casing is not to be installed. The nominal size of the reamer is 180 mm dia. at which size, 140 mm dia. tools will work freely.

The reamer is not suitable as a means of breaking rock, but may dislodge cobbles, allowing them to fall into the hole, for recovery by other tools.
